Dr. Kizzy Raphael, ND

Medical Director

Dr. Kizzy Raphael is the founder of Redwood Naturopathic Medicine. She received her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

Her initial interest in patient centered treatment was the result of an experience with a close family member who suffered from uncontrolled diabetes, eventually losing both kidneys, then succumbing to metastatic prostate cancer. This kindled a deep interest in natural medicine and patient care leading her to make a life altering career change, confident that she had found her calling.

Dr. Kizzy has experienced the healing power of natural medicine not just in patients but also first hand. After suffering from chronic fatigue brought on by a demanding work/life schedule, she consulted several medical doctors with no improvement. She then discovered naturopathic medicine and experienced great success.

Having traveled to over thirty countries, Dr. Kizzy has developed a unique perspective with her functional approach to nutrition, exercise, and stress management. In many parts of the world, integrative medicine or natural remedies are included in core medical practice and have not been crowded out by Western medicine. This observation has inspired her to teach her patients ways to incorporate these techniques into a busy American lifestyle.

Dr. Kizzy's specialties:

  • Endocrinology (hormone imbalance, thyroid disorders, adrenal fatigue, PMS, abnormal periods, menopause, andropause)

  • Gastroenterology (IBS, SIBO, acid reflux, bloating, excessive burping, and others)

  • Cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol)

Dr. Kizzy is a member of California Naturopathic Doctors Association (CNDA), American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), and the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce. She has additional training in functional endocrinology and integrative cardiology.  She also volunteers at Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic, which serves low-income, underserved women.

In her free time, Dr. Kizzy enjoys traveling, biking, yoga, swimming, and spending time with her son and husband.

Madison Steele

Nutrition Consultant and Health Coach

Meet Madison Steele, Redwood Naturopathic's holistic nutritionist, health coach, and yoga instructor. Madison's current philosophy emanates from her extensive nutrition and wellness education and personal health journey.

Madison's nutrition practice is centered around a holistic, individualized, and integrative approach to health. Together you will look at how all aspects of your life are interconnected and their effects on your health. You will gain a better understanding of the dietary and lifestyle choices that best support your healing journey, as well as how to incorporate these choices into your daily life successfully. You both will work together to make long-term adjustments that will significantly enhance your energy, vitality, and long-term health and well-being.

She began my education at California State University, Chico, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science, a specialty in dietetics. This degree opened her eyes to the world of nutrition, but she still felt like her knowledge was incomplete. Being someone who struggled with chronic health issues most of her life, she was still feeling sick most days, and almost every time I ate. This was when she discovered naturopathy and holistic nutrition. Madison began working with Dr. Kizzy, and finally found the root cause of all her symptoms. She truly learned the power of holistic healing and discovered how powerful food really is. Madison began attending Bauman College, where she finished a post-graduate degree in holistic nutrition.

The food you consume plays an influential role in your overall health and healing journey. This is why Madison wants to help you discover how you can use the power of food and lifestyle to help you heal. Madison, first hand, understands how overwhelming it can be to receive a new diagnosis or be told to make drastic lifestyle changes for your health. This is where Madison comes in; She is here to make this transition easier and fun! Madison works with the concept of bio-individuality and client-centered care. Everyone is different and will be addressed so; there is no one size fits approach to nutrition. We will work together to come up with a plan that works for you!
